RS誌によると、Rick Rubin、Q-Tip、Pete Rock、Nas 、Busta Rhymesなど業界のエグゼクティブやアーティスト33人を相手に実施したアンケートの結果をもとに製作したリストとのことだが、過去に他の媒体が実施した同様のランキングでも見られるように、ここでもオールドスクールの名曲(50曲中24曲が80年代の曲)を中心としたセレクションになっている
